The Fukui prefecture sits on Japans western side facing the Sea of Japan. The area contains 9 cities and is made up of small plains that sit snuggly between the sea and mountains. The capital city of Fukui is located in a larger plain which is also home to most of the population in the prefecture. The Maruoka-jo castle that was built in 1572 is the oldest standing castle in Japan and a popular spot for tourists. There is also a well known Dinosaur museum that showcases many dinosaur prints that have been found in the area. Local crabs are a delightful specialty and are often prepared by the locals.
