Nagano city is the capital of the Nagano prefecture. Home to the Olympic Winter Games in 1998, Nagano has evolved from the once small temple town of Zenkoji. To get to Nagano city by Shinkansen fast train from Tokyo, it will take around one hour and forty minutes. It is a very popular tourist hub with the famous Zenko-ji Buddhist temple overlooking the city and being the main attraction. The temple is the largest wooden building in eastern Japan. The village of Lizuna is a great getaway for tourist in the north of the city featuring an Olympic ski resorts, an onsen which is a Japanese hot spring and campsites.
