A prefecture that is landlocked in the Kanto region, Tochigi is home to one of Japan's most visited tourist destinations, the city of Nikko. Located at the entrance of Nikko National Park, the city is home to the remarkable Toshogu, the most lavishly decorated shrine complex in Japan. Toshogu is the mausoleum of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shugunate. Nikko National Park is home to wild monkeys, hiking trails, waterfalls and hot springs that can be found Japan wide. "Koyo" is the famous autumn foliage that graces many Japanese trees in autumn and are a favourite of many tourists when they visit.
