Telecommunications are certainly bolstering the economy - Fuji Television, Nippon Broadcasting and Livedoor, a risqué Internet company, have been boosting share prices this year on the Japanese stock exchange. This could have a knock-on effect in the long run in terms of inflation and, yes, property prices. The Japanese Finance minister, announced in May 2007 that Tokyo needed a Canary Wharf-like hub if it is to remain the centre of world trading. He envisions a cluster of skyscrapers along the Sumida River, not too far from the stock exchange. Whichever way you look at it, Tokyo is exhilarating.
